Get Your Tits Out
In October 2012, to mark breast cancer awareness month, a troop of 60 flashmobbers took to central London to stage the worlds first boobie flashmob! This was choreographed by founder of Living The Dream founder Zoe Jackson. (We were fortunate enough to work with Zoe and her company earlier this summer so were proud to award her official ‘Cellar Door Girldem‘ status).
Zoe was invited by Kris Hallenga, founder of CoppaFeel!, to choreograph the flash mob in aid of the charity for breast cancer awareness month. Morning commuters passing through St Christopher’s place in the West End were met with a eye-watering sight as the women dressed as giant boobs, descended on the area singing loudly to a variety of boob-related songs like “I feel for you” and “My Humps”.
CoppaFeel! is a charity that aims to stamp out late detection and misdiagnosis of breast cancer, by ensuring young women know the signs and symptoms. Kris Hallenga, founder of the organising charity, was diagnosed with breast cancer aged just 23. She has been campaigning ever since to “get people talking about boobs.”
“I didn’t check my boobs. I didn’t know I could get the disease at my age.” – Kris Hallenga
When Kris discovered a lump in her breast, she claims her doctor initially dismissed it because she was so young. By the time she was diagnosed with cancer, the disease had spread to her spine.
Speaking alongside her identical twin sister, Maren, she asserted the value of regular checking:
“It’s very very important for people to check their own boobs… it’s the only way to detect breast cancer early, particularly in young people who don’t have regular mammograms.”
