Company Results

  • Ann Summers have reported a 4.9% increase in sales to £106m for the year to 27 June 2015. Like-for-like sales increased by 7.6% for the same period. (Source: Verdict)

  • Cath Kidston have reported a 2.4% increase in group sales to £118.5m for the 12 months to 29 March 2015. Loss after tax stood at £14.2m for the same period. (Source: Retail Week)
  • Dobbies have reported an 8% increase in sales to £153m for the 53 weeks to 01 March 2015. Pre-tax loss stood at £48.4m for the same period. (Source: Retail Week)
  • House of Fraser have reported a 27.7% increase in online sales for the 13 weeks to 31 October 2015. Like-for-like sales increased by 4.6% for the same period. (Source: Verdict)
  • Jigsaw have reported an 18.5% increase in sales to £104.9m for the year to 03 October 2015. Like-for-like sales increased by 12.3% for the same period. (Source: Retail Week)

  • John Lewis have reported a 3.5% increase in sales for the week to 05 December 2015. Fashion, Home and Electricals & Home Technology sales increased by 5.7%, 1.9% and 2.8% respectively. Sales at johnlewis.com increased by 13.6%.
  • Mulberry have reported a 5% increase in total revenue to £67.8m for the six months to 30 September 2015. Retail revenue increased by 12% to £50.4m while wholesale revenue decreased by 11% to £17.4m for the same period. Profit before tax stood at £0.1m.

  • Ocado have reported a 15.0% increase in gross group sales to £381.6m for the 16 weeks to 29 November 2015. Gross retail sales increased by 13.0% to £351.8m for the same period.
  • Sports Direct have reported a 0.1% increase in group revenue to £1.4bn for the 26 weeks to 25 October 2015. Sports retail sales increased by 0.2% to £1.2bn while premium lifestyle sales decreased by 12.2% to £88m for the same period. The brands division revenue increased by 10.2% to £113m while underlying profit before tax increased by 3.6% to £166.4m.
  • The White Company reported a 13.8% increase in sales to £163.3m for the 52 weeks to 28 March 2015. Like-for-like sales increased by 10% while operating profits stood at £12.8m for the same period. (Source: Retail Week)
  • Waitrose have reported a 0.4% increase in sales (including petrol) for the week to 05 December 2015.

According to Conlumino, Christmas spend is expected to increase by 1.3% to £16bn in 2015 from £15.8bn in 2014, with spending on food and grocery increasing to £5bn. In 2014 Tesco led the retail Christmas market capturing 16.5% of total spend, but for Christmas 2015 the popularity of discounters will rise as an increasing number of shoppers are expected to buy Christmas staples and all the trimmings from Aldi and Lidl. Quality of food combined with the ongoing media attention and price battle amongst the grocers has meant shoppers believe they can now spend less with a discounter without compromising quality.
