Company results:

AO World have reported a 13.6% increase in group revenue to £796.8m for the 52 weeks ending 31 March 2018. Total UK revenue increased by 8.1% to £680.8m, while website sales for UK increased by 8.7% to £606.6m for the same period.
Findel have reported a 4.8% increase in revenue to £479.0m for the 52 weeks ending 30 March 2018. Adjusted operating profit increased by 15.4% to £36.0m, for the same period.
House of Fraser have reported a 6.8% decrease in turnover for the 52 weeks ending 27 January 2018. Operating profits decreased by 37.7% to £19.8m, while online sales decreased by 10.8% to £263.1m for the same period. (Source: GlobalData)

Joules have reported an 18.4% increase in group revenue to £185.9m for the 52 weeks ending 27 May 2018. Retail revenue increased by 15.9%, while wholesale revenue increased by 24.0% for the same period.

Quiz have reported a 30.0% increase in group revenue to £116.4m for the 52 weeks ending 31 March 2018. Revenue from UK stores and concessions increased by 12.0% to £64.6m, while underlying profit before tax increased by 20.0% to £9.8m for the same period.
The Hut Group have reported a 47.0% increase in group sales to £736.0m for the 12 months ending 31 December 2017. International sales increased by 62.0% to £512.0m, while gross profit increased by 51.0% to £318.0m for the same period.

WH Smith have reported a 4.0% increase in revenue for the 13 weeks ending 02 June 2018. Like-for-like sales increased by 1.0%, while travel business total sales increased by 8.0%. High street sales decreased by 1.0% for the same period.

Clothing, Footwear & Accessories

Amazon have announced plans to create 2,500 new permanent jobs, subsequently bringing its total UK workforce to 27,500 by the end of 2018. H&M have announced two new cutting-edge technology features during Stockholm Fashion Tech Talks, a state-of-the-art conference on fashion digitisation. Working with Google, the retailer has developed a voice app for H&M Home in selected markets. Superdrug have announced plans to launch a mobile plan for their loyalty card members. The health and beauty retailer will launch a SIM-only plan for any customers who hold a Health & Beautycard on 20 June 2018. Ted Baker have launched a new children’s clothing line in partnership with the Beano, featuring iconic characters from the historic British comic. The new “Beano Baker” range will be exclusively available at Debenhams, and it will include t-shirts, shirts, hoodies and loungewear in colours and designs inspired by the original Beano Fan Club. Zalando have announced plans to launch online shops in Ireland and the Czech Republic during the summer of 2018. The move will mark the first time the retailer has entered a new country since 2013. Food & Drink

Sainsbury’s have announced the promotion of Clodagh Moriarty to the newly created group chief digital officer role with immediate effect. Her responsibility will be to create and lead the company’s digital strategy, ensuring customers experience an integrated and seamless digital experience across the Sainsbury’s, Argos, Sainsbury’s Bank and Nectar divisions. Sainsbury’s have also teamed up with Unilever to launch five in-store ice cream parlours. Shoppers in Sainsbury’s Balham, Wandsworth and Clapham Common stores are being offered Ben & Jerry’s ice cream while those in Bishop Stortford and Walton-on-Thames can purchase Carte D’or. Waitrose have announced a new partnership with private health care company Bupa and have plans to launch health checks in stores across their estate. Health stations will be set up across 17 of 353 UK stores, where customers can check their height, weight and blood pressure. House of Fraser have announced plans to close 31 of their 59 sites in the UK and Ireland, including their flagship on London’s Oxford Street. The retailer is also set to seek rent reductions of 25% for some of the stores that they intend to keep open. (Source: GlobalData)
Ikea have announced plans to remove all single-use plastic products by 2020 as concerns grow over the impact of plastic pollution on the environment. The retailer has revealed its updated sustainability strategy, outlining commitments to create all their products solely using renewable and recycled materials, and to increase the proportion of plant-based choices in its food offer.
